The Most Expensive Cars

SHARE

The world of high-end cars is nothing short of luxurious. From classic Ferraris to sleek McLarens and Bugattis, the most expensive cars ever sold have been some of the most highly sought-after vehicles in the world. However, the most expensive car ever sold was a one-of-a-kind, ultra-rare 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO, which sold for a whopping $70 million in 2018.

The Ferrari 250 GTO is widely considered to be the pinnacle of vintage sports cars. Only 36 of these stunning vehicles were ever produced, and each 250 GTO is unique in its own way. The car is meant to be driven and raced, and it was designed to be fast and nimble. The Ferrari 250 GTO is powered by a 3.0-liter V12 engine that produces around 300 horsepower and can manage to reach speeds of up to 173 mph. It’s this performance that has made the 250 GTO one of the most sought-after cars in history.

But what makes this particular 250 GTO more expensive than the rest? Firstly, it was once owned by the famous racing driver and legendary Ferrari enthusiast Sterling Moss. Secondly, this car has an incredible racing history – it won the coveted Tour de France road race in 1964, and it’s rumored that it was also driven by not one, but two Formula One world champions. These factors certainly contributed to the car’s mind-blowing price.

While it’s not entirely out of the ordinary for high-end vintage cars to sell for millions of dollars, $70 million is still a mind-bogglingly high sum. The sale of the Ferrari 250 GTO broke the previous record for the most expensive car ever sold – another Ferrari 250 GTO that sold for $52 million in 2013.

With the mountainous price tag attached to this 250 GTO, it might be easy to assume that the new owner would want to tuck it away in a private collection, never to be driven again. However, this is unlikely to be the case. Given that the Ferrari 250 GTO was designed as a racing car, it’s more than likely that the new owner will take it out on the open road or even participate in classic racing events.

The Ferrari 250 GTO is the most expensive car ever sold, and for good reason. A true masterpiece of engineering and design, the 250 GTO represents the epitome of vintage sports cars, and a must-have for any serious collector. While the $70 million price tag might seem shocking to some, it’s a small price to pay for one of the world’s most iconic vehicles.
